John Aldridge hails Merseyside derby as one of the best

Liverpool legend John Aldridge says that Saturday's Merseyside derby was one of the best he has witnessed.

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has hailed Saturday's 3-3 draw with Everton as one of the best Merseyside derbies he has ever seen.

The Reds went ahead twice through Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suarez, but were pegged back both times by goals from Kevin Mirallas and Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku eventually put the Blues ahead before Daniel Sturridge netted a late equaliser, and Aldridge thought that the game was a thrilling one.

"As a spectacle, Saturday has to be right up there with the best Merseyside derbies I've ever seen," Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

"My stomach was going all the way through Saturday's game. It was unbelievably open and it was concerning how they kept carving us open in the second half.

"It had just about everything and for the neutral it must have been magnificent to watch. I don't think there was ever a stage where either team felt safe and in the end a draw seemed right."

The draw leaves Brendan Rodgers's side second in the Premier League.
