Carlo Ancelotti: 'I was not approached by Liverpool'

Carlo Ancelotti insists that he was never approached by Liverpool before they appointed Jurgen Klopp.

Carlo Ancelotti has dismissed suggestions that he was approached by Liverpool when they started their search for a new manager.

The Italian was linked with the job at Anfield following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers, before the club confirmed the appointment of former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp.

Harry Redknapp recently claimed that the first offer was made to Ancelotti, but the veteran coach insists that there was no contact with Liverpool.

"With Liverpool, there was no contact," he told Goal.com. "When a job becomes available, they always use the names of the coaches currently without a team, so, my name was thrown out there.

"But I never had any direct contact with the directors of Liverpool."

Ancelotti was linked with Bayern Munich over the weekend as a possible replacement for Pep Guardiola, whose current contract expires at the end of the season.
