Andy Carroll has told Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish that he cannot be expected to score goals if he starts on the bench.
The 23-year-old has made 38 Premier League appearances for the Reds, 16 of which have been as a substitute.
He has started the last two games and scored late winners in both, including the 2-1 win over Everton in the FA Cup. Now he is calling for more full appearances.
He said: "I am confident in myself that, if I am playing games, I will score goals and put myself about.
"I cannot really do that if I am on the bench and coming on in the last 10 minutes of games."
Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer recently tipped Carroll for an England recall.
