Steven Gerrard backs Jordan Henderson for Liverpool captaincy

Jordan Henderson is the right man to take over as Liverpool captain in the future, according to current skipper Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has given his backing for Jordan Henderson to succeed him as skipper of the Reds when he decides to hangs up his boots.

Henderson was announced as vice captain of the Merseyside club this week and Gerrard, 34, believes that his fellow midfielder has all the right attributes to take over the armband when the time comes.

He told The Mirror: "I think I see a lot of similarities to myself, the way I go about it day-to-day and the way Jordan does as well. All these captains who rant and rave and try to knock the paint off a dressing room door, it is a load of nonsense.

"What matters is what you do yourself professionally, and what constructive information you can give one-to-one.

"And I would love nothing better, when I call it a day here, than to pass the armband over to Jordan."

Both Henderson and Gerrard were part of the Liverpool team that lost 3-1 at West Ham United on Saturday as the Reds suffered a third defeat in five Premier League games.
