Steven Gerrard hails Liverpool character

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard hails his side's resolve and character following their 2-1 win over West Ham United this afternoon.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has hailed his side's resolve and character after they made it nine Premier League wins in a row this afternoon.

The Reds regained their place at the top of the table courtesy of a hard-fought but controversial 2-1 win over West Ham United, with Gerrard scoring both of his side's goals from the penalty spot.

West Ham scored an equaliser just before half time that replays showed should have been ruled out for a foul by Andy Carroll on Simon Mignolet, but Gerrard was happy with how his side responded to that setback.

"There is great resolve, character and togetherness from the squad. We did [feel a sense of injustice], but the manager said to us at half time we can't change anything," Gerrard told Sky Sports News.

"That one went against us, but we couldn't feel sorry for ourselves. We had to roll our sleeves up and give an extra 10%. You can see clearly it's a foul, the linesman flagged for it and the referee has overruled him."

Liverpool are currently two points clear of Chelsea and four ahead of Manchester City, who travel to Anfield next weekend.
