Steven Gerrard: 'Liverpool can show that there is life after Luis Suarez'

Steven Gerrard believes that Liverpool can be successful without Luis Suarez following the arrival of Mario Balotelli from AC Milan.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes that the arrival of Mario Balotelli can prove that the team are capable of success without Luis Suarez.

The Merseyside outfit sold the prolific Uruguayan to Barcelona for a reported fee in the region of £70m earlier this summer.

Many have suggested that the Reds will struggle this season without Suarez's goal prowess, which earned him 31 Premier League goals in the 2013-14 campaign.

After bidding farewell to the 27-year-old, manager Brendan Rodgers recruited nine new players, one of which is Italy striker Mario Balotelli, who signed on Monday from AC Milan for a reported £16m fee.

"There's no doubt about it, we're going to miss a player like Luis Suarez," Gerrard told Sky Sports News. "The manager has strengthened in other areas and we've also recently signed Mario Balotelli.

"So, hopefully the new signings, along with everyone who has been here for a long time, can help show everyone there is life after Luis and we'll try and fight to try and be successful without him."

Liverpool have secured one victory and suffered one defeat in the league campaign so far this season ahead of Sunday's clash against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.
