Liverpool's Steven Gerrard: 'Top-four place can be ours with fantastic form'

Gerrard: 'We need top-four form'

Steven Gerrard believes that if Liverpool carry their form from the latter stages of last season into the 2013-14 campaign, then they can secure a top-four place.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is confident that the club can secure a position in the top four of the Premier League if they recreate their form from the second half of last season.

The Merseyside outfit could only finish seventh in the 2012-13 campaign, but Gerrard believes that their position was down to inconsistency in the first four months of the season.

"The final five or six months of the season were fantastic - I think it was top-four form," Gerrard told the club's official website. "We certainly finished the season really strongly, but we were very inconsistent from August to Christmas.

"That's the reason we never managed to achieve what we set out to do, which was a top-four finish. But I felt at times in the season we played some brilliant football.

"If we can find that level on a consistent basis, I've got confidence we can break into the top four."

Liverpool have strengthened their squad with the acquisitions of Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto, Kolo Toure and Simon Mignolet so far during this summer transfer window.
