Alan Hansen: 'Steven Gerrard's form key for Liverpool'

Liverpool legend Alan Hansen says that Steven Gerrard's form is key for the Reds as they close in on their first league title since 1990.

Liverpool legend Alan Hansen has claimed that Steven Gerrard's current form could see his old club over the line in the hunt for Premier League glory.

Brendan Rodgers's side beat Manchester City 3-2 on Sunday, and victory in their remaining four games will see them crowned champions for the first time since 1990.

The former defender told BBC Sport: "When [Gerrard] played further forward he used to rush from A to B to C and then back to A again.

"But now he has taken a more disciplined role, sitting in the hole in a similar position to the one where Graeme Souness played so well.

"[The Chelsea match] has the look of a title decider about it but with Gerrard in this sort of form, Liverpool could take a massive step towards ending their 24-year wait."

The Reds travel to Norwich City on Sunday.
