Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly willing to give Danny Ward a chance to stake a claim for the number one spot ahead of Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will reportedly give Danny Ward an opportunity to stake his claim for a place in the first team this season.

The goalkeeping position has been a contentious issue for Liverpool this summer, with Loris Karius replacing Simon Mignolet as number one last term before making two high-profile howlers in the Champions League final.

Karius was once again at fault for a goal as Liverpool scraped past Merseyside rivals Tranmere Rovers in a pre-season game earlier this week, leading to further speculation over his future as the first-choice goalkeeper.

The Anfield outfit have been heavily linked with a move for Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker this summer, but the Liverpool Echo reports that Klopp may instead give Ward a chance to prove himself.

Klopp has been impressed with Ward's attitude since the squad reconvened for pre-season training at the start of this month and is willing to hand the 25-year-old more game time in the coming weeks.

Mignolet remains unavailable due to his ongoing participation at the World Cup with Belgium, meaning that Ward and Karius are the only two senior goalkeepers Klopp can call on at the moment.
