Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp: 'Never write off Christian Benteke'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp claims that it would be "a big mistake" for anyone to overlook the threat of Crystal Palace forward Christian Benteke.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has praised the attributes of Christian Benteke, despite having sold the forward to Crystal Palace.

Benteke was at Anfield when Klopp arrived in October 2015, but the Belgium international did not fit into the manager's system and was subsequently allowed to link up with the Eagles.

The 27-year-old endured a difficult second season at Selhurst Park, but ahead of Monday's fixture between the two clubs, Klopp has claimed that it would be "a big mistake" to overlook the frontman.

At a press conference, Klopp told reporters: "Anyone who thinks about writing him off makes a big mistake.

"He didn't score too often last season but he always has opportunities. He's a tough challenge to defend. Especially set pieces when he is around."

Benteke scored 10 goals in 20 starts and 22 substitute appearances for the Merseyside giants.
