Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has claimed that the team's ambition is to win the Premier League title this season.
The Reds mounted a serious challenge for the crown in the first half of the 2016-17 campaign, but injuries and poor results over the festive period dropped them out of the running.
In the end, Liverpool secured fourth place and finished ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United, but they resided 17 points adrift of champions Chelsea.
"Yes, we will be playing for the championship," The Mirror quotes Klopp as saying. "We don't start a season by not having any ambitions - we have to have our goals.
"We did have a bit of back luck last season. I think we can play a little bit better. Let's hope everything will work very well and that there isn't much more to improve. We have to work very hard on it and we're doing that."
Meanwhile, the German coach has reiterated that Philippe Coutinho is not for sale amid reports that the Brazilian is keen on a move to Barcelona.
