Liverpool confirm that a thigh injury has forced midfielder Jonjo Shelvey to withdraw from England's friendly against Sweden.

Liverpool have confirmed that midfielder Jonjo Shelvey will play no part in England's friendly against Sweden this week.

The 20-year-old has been forced to withdraw from the international fixture due to a thigh injury, which put the midfielder out of contention for a place in the squad that drew 1-1 with Chelsea yesterday.

The Merseyside outfit have stated that Shelvey will remain at their training base Melwood in order to focus on returning to fitness for the Reds' Premier League match against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

The midfielder secured his first cap for the Three Lions in their 5-0 2014 World Cup qualifier win over San Marino last month.
