Simon Mignolet: 'Loris Karius will get stronger after being dropped'

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet says that fellow stopper Loris Karius will become stronger after being dropped from the side against Middlesbrough.

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has backed teammate Loris Karius to bounce back from being dropped from the starting lineup for the match with Middlesbrough.

A number of errors led to Karius being replaced by Mignolet, who kept a clean sheet as Liverpool ran out 3-0 winners at the Riverside Stadium.

Karius is expected to remain on the bench for the Merseyside derby on Monday night, but Mignolet feels that the summer signing will learn from the experience of losing his place in the team.

The 28-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "That's part of the job and you have to be mentally strong to deal with that. I'm coming up to 29, and I've been through it as well. It's not nice.

"You only get stronger from it, especially at a club like Liverpool Football Club. One thing gets really big out of nothing.

"We are team-mates, we all have to get through it and push each other. For Loris, it will not be nice. But he's more than capable and professional enough to deal with it and learn from it."

Larius has made a total of 11 appearances in all competitions this season.
