Fabrice Muamba coaching at Liverpool academy

Liverpool Under-21 coach Michael Beale reveals that former Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba is coaching in the club's academy.

Liverpool's Under-21 coach Michael Beale has revealed that Fabrice Muamba has been working with the club's academy.

The former Bolton Wanderers midfielder was forced to retire after suffering a cardiac arrest during an FA Cup match at White Hart Lane in 2012.

Beale told the Liverpool Echo: "Fabrice came in to do a talk for the Premier League about his situation and how he progressed from a young player right through to recovering from his near-fatal accident.

"I was so taken aback by Fabrice's enthusiasm and I spoke with him. Fabrice is friends with our physio, Andy Renshaw, from his Bolton days and he is starting his coaching badges.

"We invited Fabrice in and his personality has lit up the academy in the days that he comes in, and he was with us this week watching the Chelsea game."

The 26-year-old also had stints with Birmingham City and Arsenal before retiring in August 2012, five months after his cardiac arrest.
