Liverpool striker Divock Origi says that manager Jurgen Klopp told the players to be "patient" in order to beat Sunderland.

Liverpool striker Divock Origi has claimed that manager Jurgen Klopp told the players that they needed to be "patient" in order to beat Sunderland at Anfield.

It took 75 minutes for the Reds to find the breakthrough as Origi netted and James Milner struck from the penalty spot to earn the team a 2-0 victory this afternoon.

It was a frustrating first half as Sunderland prevented Liverpool from finding a way through, and matters were made worse when Philippe Coutinho was stretchered off with a foot injury around the half-hour mark.

The silver lining was that substitute Origi scored the pivotal goal in the match.

"The manager said before the game we had to stay patient. He said if we played like that the whole game we would win," BBC Sport quotes Origi as saying.

When asked if he knew details of Coutinho's injury, the Belgian replied: "No not at all. I hope it's ok for him because he is a very important player for us."

Liverpool have moved to the top of the Premier League table for the time being, level on points with Manchester City.
