The Brazilian was taken off after just 30 minutes of action at Anfield following a collision with Black Cats midfielder Didier Ndong.

Divock Origi was drafted in to partner Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane up front for the Reds, who are already missing Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge to groin and calf injuries respectively.

Coutinho has been an ever-present for Jurgen Klopp's side so far this season, scoring five goals and registering five assists from 13 league appearances.
