Brendan Rodgers: 'Liverpool debt won't prevent me buying players'

Brendan Rodgers says that he has "assurances" from the Liverpool board that the club's debts will not affect spending on players.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that he will have money to spend on players in the summer transfer window, despite an increase in the club's debts.

Accounts from last year revealed that the Merseyside outfit had accumulated £87.2m in debt, but Rodgers has claimed that the figures won't affect summer spending.

"If you look where the club was at four years ago and where it is now it is a different place," The Independent quotes Rodgers as saying.

"Of course there is still debt there but I think next year's results will show further improvement on that. In terms of me building the squad I've already got the assurances it won't affect anything."

The Reds are due to take on Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday.
