Brendan Rodgers: 'Liverpool stepped it up in the second half against Swansea City'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers praises his players for edging a 1-0 win away at Swansea City on Monday evening despite being under the cosh in the first half.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has praised his players for recovering from a poor first-half display against Swansea City to step it up after the break and seal a 1-0 win.

Jordan Henderson's strike in the 68th minute was enough for the Reds to secure all three points at the Liberty Stadium on Monday evening, despite being under siege before half time.

Rodgers told BBC Sport after the game: "In the first half we were nowhere near the level we expect. We weren't pressing enough, and when we got the ball, we gave it away too cheaply.

"It doesn't matter what system you play, the attitude and the energy are important. We weren't on it in the first half.

"But credit to Swansea, they played well. We shortened the pitch a lot better in the second half and started to create problems for them."

The win puts Liverpool fifth in the Premier League table, just two points behind Manchester United.
