Brendan Rodgers: Striker situation "not ideal"

Brendan Rodgers concedes that Liverpool are short of striking options after Fabio Borini's injury left Luis Suarez as the Reds' only recognised forward.

Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he is concerned by Liverpool's lack of fit striking options.

Luis Suarez is the only recognised forward available for Reds selection ahead of their clash with Reading this weekend.

Summer signing Fabio Borini is expected to be absent for up to three months after undergoing surgery on a broken foot aggravated on international duty.

Rodgers surprisingly allowed record signing Andy Carroll to join West Ham United on loan, but despite Borini's injury, he is not considering recalling the England international in January.

He said: "It is not ideal, that is the reality, but that is the cards we have been dealt. I have got terrific players here whose intentions in every game have been fantastic.

"Of course it leaves us a bit short, there is not getting away from that. We'll just crack on with what we have and look to get positive performances and results."

Youngsters Daniel Pacheco, Samed Yesil and Adam Morgan are alternative options that Rodgers may consider.
