Luis Suarez: 'Liverpool wouldn't have challenged without me'

Now Barcelona forward Luis Suarez doubts whether Liverpool would have mounted a Premier League title challenge last season without him.

Luis Suarez has expressed doubt as to whether Liverpool would have mounted a Premier League title challenge last season without him.

Brendan Rodgers's side launched an unexpected title assault last term, with Suarez's 31 league goals at the forefront of their challenge.

Liverpool eventually finished second and Suarez moved on to Barcelona, and the striker believes that his form was one of the main reasons for their challenge.

"I appreciate all the work the team did but I missed six matches and scored all those goals in the Premier League without being the penalty-taker,' Suarez told Barca's official website.

"The truth is that I left very happy because if I hadn't had the attitude and mentality to want to lead the team forward, I don't think Liverpool would have done as well as they did either."

Suarez could make his Barcelona debut against Real Madrid at the end of this month, when his four-month worldwide ban for a biting incident at the World Cup comes to an end.
