Liverpool will hope to bounce back from their opening-day defeat but face the tough prospect of overcoming Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday.

Liverpool face a tough test against Manchester City when they welcome the Premier League champions to Anfield on Sunday.

The Merseyside outfit will be desperate to bounce back from their disappointing 3-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion on the opening day of the season, while Man City just sneaked a 3-2 win in a tough encounter with newly-promoted side Southampton last weekend.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is expected to bring Luis Suarez and skipper Steven Gerrard back into the fold after leaving them out of the side's 1-0 win over Hearts in the Europa League last night.

Glen Johnson and Martin Skrtel could also return to the lineup this weekend, while full-back Jose Enrique could start if declared fit following a knock in training.

Meanwhile, Roberto Mancini will be unable to call on City striker Sergio Aguero, who is struggling with a knee injury, which is likely to pave the way for Italy international Mario Balotelli.

Gareth Barry remains sidelined with a hernia problem, which should allow new signing Jack Rodwell to retain his spot in midfield following the victory against Southampton at the Etihad Stadium last Sunday.

Liverpool: Reina; Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Enrique; Gerrard, Lucas, Allen; Borini, Suarez, Downing

Manchester City: Hart; Zabaleta, Kompany, Lescott, Clichy; Rodwell, Yaya Toure; Nasri, Tevez, Silva; Balotelli

Sports Mole says: 1-2
