Luis Suarez inspires Liverpool to comfortable victory over Wigan Athletic

Luis Suarez scores a brace to become the first player to reach 10 Premier League goals as Liverpool comfortably see off Wigan at Anfield.

There were few clear-cut openings in the first half, with both sides having their best chances with shots from range.

Wigan's Ben Watson fizzed an effort just over while Suso forced Ali Al-Habsi into a save.

Spaniard Suso had to come off because of an ankle problem, with Jordan Henderson replacing the winger. Roberto Martinez also had to make a change when Watson picked up an injury. David Jones came on for the midfielder.

The home side took the lead just two minutes into the second period when on-form Suarez was set up by Raheem Sterling following a weak backpass to smash home.

The Uruguayan then became the first player to reach double figures in the Premier League this season by poking home Jose Enrique's through pass.

It was three soon after, when Enrique himself pounced on a loose ball after Sterling and Suarez exchanged passes and Al-Habsi had palmed away the young Englishman's effort.

Three points for Brendan Rodgers's men see them rise to 11th while Wigan remain 14th.
