Dennis Wise: 'Liverpool can catch Manchester City'

Dennis Wise backs Liverpool to close the gap on Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title this season.

Former Chelsea midfielder Dennis Wise has said that Liverpool can challenge Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title next season.

City coasted to the Premier League title last season, breaking the 100-points barrier, while also finishing 19 points ahead of second placed rivals Manchester United. Pep Guardiola's side also broke 11 records including most goals, most wins, most passes, and the highest average possession.

However Wise claims that Liverpool have improved over the summer with the signings of Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri, Fabinho and the world's most expensive goalkeeper in Alisson.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Wise said: "I think this is the team [to challenge City]. I really do. They showed glimpses of it last year. They finished fourth, but they also got to the final of the Champions League.

"It's time for Klopp to step up to the plate. He's spent £178m on players he's bought in. He's filled gaps that needed to be filled."

Liverpool will take on City later tonight in a pre-season friendly in the US.
