John Aldridge: 'Academy pair can save Liverpool money in transfer market'

Club legend John Aldridge feels that Liverpool can save money in the transfer market by handing more opportunities to Neco Williams and Curtis Jones.

Club legend John Aldridge has suggested that Liverpool are well placed to save a significant amount of money in the transfer market.

Despite being on the brink of a first Premier League title, Liverpool are expected to be active during the next window with a number of players likely to leave Anfield.

However, rather than spending funds on new additions, Aldridge feels that Jurgen Klopp should hand more opportunities to the likes of Neco Williams and Curtis Jones.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the former forward said: "What is good from Liverpool's perspective is that we have already got a very good squad and the emergence of this brilliant crop of young players means it is fine tuning rather than wholesale surgery that is required.

"Curtis Jones in my opinion is going to save the club a lot of money. This has been a real breakthrough season for him, that brilliant FA Cup winner against Everton was one of the best moments of the whole campaign and will have really added to the belief the lad himself and many others have that he can go on to be a top player for Liverpool.

"If Adam Lallana goes, I feel Curtis is ready to step into his shoes in the squad and similarly Neco Williams has shown he's good enough to make the step up if Nathaniel Clyne departs."

Jones has made four starts and two substitute outings this season, while Williams has made five starts in cup competitions.
