Bruce Grobbelaar: 'Liverpool need player like Roberto Firmino'

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar believes that the Reds might have made an astute signing in the form of Roberto Firmino.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar has said that he believes Roberto Firmino could be just the type of player that his old club needs.

The Reds completed the signing of the Brazil international from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim this morning, subject to a medical.

Grobbelaar says that the capture of Firmino could prove to be a good piece of business, particularly if Raheem Sterling's reported move to Manchester City goes through.

"Maybe it's a lot of money, but Liverpool are going to get the funds from Raheem Sterling going to Manchester City - I hear he's going for something ridiculous like £50m," Grobbelaar told talkSPORT.

"If Liverpool do get Firmino you are looking at half the cost for a player very similar to Sterling and at least he is scoring a lot more goals than him – he might be a signing we need."

Liverpool have also signed Danny Ings, James Milner, Adam Bogdan and Joe Gomez this summer.
