Liverpool agree to sign 18-year-old Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay in a deal that could reach £5.5m, according to a report.

Liverpool have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay for a mere £5.5m including add-ons.

The 18-year-old was named the Scottish Football Writers' Association's Young Player of the Year for the 2021-22 season after enjoying a breakthrough campaign in Pittodrie.

Ramsay made 33 appearances in all competitions for Aberdeen and contributed one goal and nine assists in the process - setting up four strikes in six Europa Conference League qualifying matches.

The teenager's Scottish Premiership campaign saw him register a goal and five assists in 22 top-flight matches during the regular season - starting 19 of them.

Ramsay - a three-cap Scotland Under-21 international - caught the eye of numerous clubs over the past few months, but Liverpool are seemingly poised to win the race for his services.

According to The Mirror, Liverpool and Aberdeen have come to an agreement over a fee for the defender, and the Reds will fork out £4m upfront to secure his signature.

The report adds that a further £1.5m will be included for bonuses/add-ons, and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has become a 'big admirer' of Ramsay.

The Aberdeen starlet is now set to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms on a five-year contract over the weekend, and an official announcement of his signing could therefore come next week.

Ramsay - whose Aberdeen deal expires in 2024 - arrives at Anfield to provide backup and competition to Trent Alexander-Arnold if Neco Williams leaves permanently for Fulham, and Joe Gomez could also depart before the window shuts.

Should Gomez leave the club alongside Williams, Ramsay will reportedly be integrated straight into the first-team squad for 2022-23 instead of continuing his development out on loan.

Ramsay is set to become Liverpool's third signing of the summer window following the arrivals of Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez from Fulham and Benfica respectively.

However, The Mirror claims that Klopp's side will end their summer incomings with the acquisition of Ramsey, in spite of calls for the Reds to sign a new midfielder.

The Reds lost out on the signature of Aurelien Tchouameni to Real Madrid and are instead ready to wait until 2023 to launch a pursuit of Borussia Dortmund starlet Jude Bellingham.

Takumi Minamino, Nat Phillips and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may still seek pastures new in the coming weeks, though, and Sadio Mane is believed to have agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich, who are preparing to approach Liverpool with a third bid for the 30-year-old.

Liverpool's first match of the 2022-23 Premier League season sees them travel to newly-promoted Fulham, with the fixture list being released on Thursday morning.
