Liverpool have made contact with RB Leipzig over a summer move for striker Timo Werner, according to a report.
The 23-year-old appears to be edging towards the Red Bull Arena exit after turning down the offer of a new contract.
Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick recently stated that it is "impossible" for the Germany international to join domestic rivals Bayern Munich, despite rumours than an agreement is already in place between the player and the champions.
However, with Werner's deal due to expire at the end of next season, the Bulls know that this summer is realistically their last chance to cash in.
According to SportBild, Liverpool have signalled their interest in the former Stuttgart ace, but no offer has been tabled.
Instead, the report indicates that the Reds want to be kept up to date with the player's situation, with the option of then discussing a fee when the summer transfer window opens.
Paris Saint-Germain are also rumoured to have entered the running to sign Werner, who has scored 11 Bundesliga goals this season.
