Liverpool 'plotting Saido Berahino swoop in January'

West Bromwich Albion's Saido Berahino emerges as a reported January target for Liverpool

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has reportedly set his sights on the signing of West Bromwich Albion forward Saido Berahino in January.

The Reds have struggled to score goals so far this season with Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini all failing to net in the Premier League while Daniel Sturridge has suffered another injury setback and could be out until the New Year.

However, The Mirror claims that last season's runners-up will move back into the transfer market to try to sign the Baggies youngster, but West Brom are still hoping to tie the 21-year-old to a long-term deal.

Liverpool could also face competition for Berahino's signature from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, while Manchester United are also rumoured to be interested in the £15m-rated player, who received his first call-up to the England senior squad this month.

The frontman has scored seven goals in 11 league starts this season.
