Liverpool line up a move for Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen during the January transfer window.

Liverpool are ready to make a move for the highly-rated Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen during the January transfer window, according to Sportsvibe.

The Belgian centre back has been linked with a move to Arsenal in the past but Kenny Dalglish is willing to make a firm bid for the 24-year-old.

The move could signal the end of Daniel Agger's Liverpool career as Dalglish has become concerned with the number of injuries the Danish international has picked up recently.

Italian side AC Milan could be a potential destination for Agger, who joined Liverpool from Brondby in 2006.

If Liverpool do sign Vertonghen, he would be the second Ajax player to arrive at Anfield following the purchase of Luis Suarez last January.
