Liverpool youngster Pedro Chirivella says that he has to be "realistic" about his chances of making it at Anfield, as he targets a move away from the club.

Pedro Chirivella has admitted that he would like to leave Liverpool permanently once the transfer window reopens.

The 21-year-old has endured a frustrating few months as his January loan move to Spanish second-tier side Extremadura was not ratified in time so he is unable to play.

Chirivella has struggled to make any sort of impact under Jurgen Klopp, with his last appearance for Liverpool coming in May 2016, and he does not intend to stick around beyond the summer.

"It's not how I would like things to be, but every day I feel stronger. I'm looking forward to next season," he told AS. "At the moment I'm still in Extremadura, waiting to see what Liverpool say.

"The transfer came through 40 minutes late. I don't know who missed the communication, but the one to suffer is me. I see that Klopp likes me, but you also have to be realistic.

"Liverpool are among the best clubs in the world and I'd prefer to go on loan to play. I do not regret [moving to Liverpool] because in Liverpool I became a man on the pitch. But Liverpool know I want to go back to Spain."

Chirivella was previously linked with a move to Scottish Premiership side Celtic during Brendan Rodgers's time at the club.
