Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz reveals that he had a pre-contract agreement with Cardiff City in 2019 after making his Reds debut against the Bluebirds on Sunday.

Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz has revealed that he had a pre-contract agreement with Cardiff City in 2019 before moving to Porto.

The Colombia international made his debut for Jurgen Klopp's side as a substitute against the Bluebirds in Sunday's FA Cup success, coming off the bench to assist Takumi Minamino in a 3-1 win.

Liverpool could reportedly end up paying as much as £50m for Diaz's services, but the 25-year-old could very well have been lining up against the Merseyside giants this weekend.

The Daily Express reports that then-Cardiff boss Neil Warnock sent scouts to watch Diaz in action for Junior FC, and the attacker has also confirmed that a deal was nearly struck amid reports of a £7m move.

"Yes, there is already a pre-agreement but I still have not said anything to them, nothing to the leaders that I agree with and that I'm going to go," Diaz told Caracol Radio.

"Let's say there is an agreement between clubs, but I'm still holding back. I told them that I am determined to go but I am calm and I want to do things well. If the possibility is given, it would be good."

Diaz eventually completed a £6.5m move to Porto that year following Cardiff's demotion to the second tier and registered 41 goals and 19 assists in 125 games for the Portuguese giants before making the switch to Liverpool.
