Mamadou Sakho signs new Liverpool deal

Liverpool confirm that Mamadou Sakho has signed a new long-term contract at the club.

Liverpool have confirmed that Mamadou Sakho has signed a new long-term deal at the club.

Reports earlier today claimed that the club were ready to extend Sakho's stay at Anfield despite the Frenchman not having played a single minute in the Premier League so far this season.

After the 25-year-old put in an impressive display in the 1-1 draw with Bordeaux in the Europa League on Thursday night, the club have now confirmed that the defender has put pen to paper.

He told the club website: "I am very happy to sign a long-term contract with Liverpool because, as I have always said, I am very happy here and my family are happy in Liverpool.

"I will keep working because I am a Liverpool soldier and when Liverpool need me, I try to give my best. I am happy to stay as a Scouser. I work all the time 100%, I try to stay professional and I give my best for this city and this club.

"It is important for me because every day when I wake up, I am very happy to come into the training ground with all the players."

Sakho captained Liverpool for the first time against Bordeaux, and he now could be handed his first league appearance of the season as Liverpool take on Norwich City this Sunday.
