Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers confident of landing Steven Gerrard successor

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says that he is confident the club can still attract world-class players.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has declared that he is confident the club will attract a top-class replacement for the outgoing Steven Gerrard.

The Reds boss admits that his team has struggled to compete with some of their Premier League rivals from a financial standpoint, but believes that the lure of Anfield is enough to draw in world-class talent.

"We have to believe the status of this club, the idea that the club moving forward is something, and a challenge that will make players still want to come here," The Mirror quotes the Northern Irishman as saying.

Addressing the daunting task of replacing Gerrard, he added: "It is the critique for this club. This is Liverpool - we have to be in the running for the world's best.

"There is no doubt that we need to replace that quality. Either through some of our young players getting an opportunity or players stepping up to the mark, but also bringing in that quality."

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Gerrard is due to join Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy in the summer.
