Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers expects Divock Origi to stay at Lille

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says that he expects Divock Origi to remain in Lille, despite reports that the club want to bring the Belgian to Anfield in January.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has cooled speculation that the club are trying to bring striker Divock Origi to Anfield prior to his arranged arrival next summer.

Reports have surfaced in recent days claiming that the Merseyside outfit are prepared to 'pay whatever it takes' to release the Belgian from his loan move in January.

Liverpool signed the 19-year-old from Lille in the summer transfer window for around £10m, but agreed to loan him back to the French outfit for the duration of the 2014-15 season.

"Origi is a young player we signed last summer on agreement he had to stay at Lille," Rodgers told reporters. "That was one of main reasons we were able to sign him. As far as I'm concerned that's still case with Origi."

Rumours regarding Origi's early arrival emerged when Daniel Sturridge suffered a fresh thigh injury, which is expected to keep him out until at least the New Year.
