Preview: Lyngby Boldklub vs. Brondby - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Danish Superliga clash between Lyngby Boldklub and Brondby, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Gameweek three in the Danish Superliga pits winless Lyngby Boldklub against Brondby at Lyngby Stadion on Sunday.

The Vikings have secured one point from an available six, while last season's runners-up have notched four in the opening two games.

Lyngby just about ended last season outside the bottom two having finished third from last, four points clear of relegated OB, and the Vikings have seemingly slipped into bad habits from the previous campaign.

A defeat to Copenhagen on the opening day was followed by a point against newly promoted Sonderjyske, meaning they enter round three still seeking maximum points.

The managerial change with Morten Karlsen replacing David Nielsen in the off-season is yet to bear fruit, with one of last season's lowest scorers unable to pull up trees in attack while remaining leaky defensively.

They seek a scalp on Sunday, keen to stun last year's runners-up and get three points on board, even if it is easier said than done against one of the division's title challengers.

The home support will look to the corresponding encounters in the previous two campaigns — a 1-0 win in March 2023 and a 3-3 draw last term — to offer optimism before their forthcoming encounter.

Jesper Sorensen's men aim to avoid slipping up again at Lyngby Stadion to continue their decent-to-good start to the campaign and extend their undefeated start to three.

A rip-roaring 3-3 draw at Viborg on the opening weekend was followed by a 2-1 success against Velje at the backend of July, seeing the boys from Vestegnen keep pace with the unblemished early-season high-flyers Randers and Copenhagen.

Including Conference League matches on the continent, Brondby have started the 2024-25 campaign undefeated, notching two wins and as many draws, and they seek to extend that to five on Sunday.

Nevertheless, a cause for concern is the away side's one clean sheet in four at the season's commencement, with four conceded in two league matches.

Sorensen will hope to find the right balance this weekend as his side aim to end their two-match winless sequence at Lyngby.

Team News

Lyngby are reported to be sweating over Rezan Corlu, Marcel Romer, Enock Otoo, Mathias Kristensen and Baptiste Rolland for Sunday's gameweek three match.

Having scored just five goals last term, Frederik Gytkjaer hopes that opening his account already in last week's draw bodes well for a better return this season.

Sorensen must decide on the composition of his Brondby attack, with Emmanuel Yeboah (three goals in all competitions), Ohi Omoijuanfo and Filip Bundgaard pushing for starts.

Mathias Kvistgaarden scored and assisted in Brondby's win over Velje, but the forward is now reported to be absent through injury until late August.

Also anticipated to miss out for the away side this weekend are Sean Klaiber, Yuito Suzuki, Daniel Wass, Nicolai Vallys and Marko Divkovic, while Kevin Mensah is touch-and-go after his knee injury.

Lyngby Boldklub possible starting lineup:
Storch; Gregor, Bjelland, Lissens; Storm, Winther, Sandgrav, Finnsson; Magnusson, Gytkjaer, Amon

Brondby possible starting lineup:
Pentz; Vanlerberghe, Lauritsen, Rasmussen; Sebulonsen, Radosevic, Nartey, Bischoff; Yeboah, Schwartu; Omoijuanfo

We say: Lyngby Boldklub 1-2 Brondby

After two seasons without winning at Lyngby, Brondby should exploit their opponent's underwhelming start to the campaign by securing a close victory that extends their undefeated start to five matches in all competitions.
