Malmo and Shakhtar Donetsk face off in their Champions League clash at the Swedbank Stadion.

Both sides were without a point coming into the match as they sustained defeats to Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in their two opening matches in Group A.

Malmo secured their first win of the group stage as Markus Rosenberg's strike in the first half was enough to secure a 1-0 victory over Mircea Lucescu's men, while the Swedish side also spurned opportunities as Nikola Djurdjic missed from the penalty spot.

Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Champions League clash between Malmo and Shakhtar Donetsk.

The match this evening at the Swedbank Stadion is vital for both sides are they are yet to secure their first points of the campaign following back-to-back defeats in Group A.

Age Hareide's men fell to a 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid last time out as a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo handed Rafael Benitez's men the victory, despite a decent performance from Malmo. The Swedish side also lost their opener to Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes, leaving them in dire need of a victory this evening to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.

Donetsk are also in need of a victory after suffering the same fate as Malmo in their opening two matches, but losing by a worse margin as they fell to a 3-0 defeat to PSG in the Ukraine and suffered a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Real at the Bernabeu. A win would be huge for Mircea Lucescu's men this evening.

Let's take a look at the teams for this evening's clash the Swedbank Stadion, starting with the home side.

MALMO STARTING XI: Wiland, Konate, Tinnerholm, Bengtsson, Lewicki, Adu, Rodic, Arnason, Rosenberg, Berget, Djurdjic
SUBS: Andersson, Vindheim, Brorsson, Rakip, Wolff Eikrem, Mehmeti, Sana

SHAKHTAR STARTING XI: Pyatov, Kucher, Ismaily, Srna, Rakitskiy, Stepanenko, Fred, Bernard, Marlos, Alex Teixeira, Gladkiy
SUBS: Kanibolotskiy, Ordets, Wellington Nem, Dentinho, Kovalenko, Ferreyra, Eduardo

Malmo have made just one change from their side from their 2-0 defeat to Real last time out. Pa Konate comes into the lineup at full-back to replace Yoshimar Yotun. Nikola Djurdjic leads the line for the Swedish side, with former Celtic man Jo Inge Berget in support. Kari Arnason and Rasmus Bengtsson anchor the defence, while Oscar Lewicki and Enock Adu get the start in the middle of the park.

Lucescu has made three changes to his side from their defeat to PSG in their last match. Bernard starts in an attacking midfield role after being left on the bench against the French champions, while Taras Stepanenko and Ismaily also come into the fold this evening. Aleksandr Gladkiy leads the line for the Ukrainian side, supported by three players in behind, including Bernard, Marlos and Alex Teixeira. Yaroslav Rakitskiy and Aleksandr Kuchar anchor the heart of the defence this evening.

Hareide feels that his side will have the chance to attack Shakhtar this evening, in what he expects to be an open contest.

He told reporters: Shakhtar stood up to Real Madrid and also played well against Paris. They are a good team. They play with a high tempo and can also be direct. They have a lot of good players but we need to stop their team, not individual players. They attack pretty much all the time and maybe they leave themselves a bit too open, so that gives us a chance."

Lucescu has insisted that the match is not all-or-nothing for his side or Malmo, despite their failure to pick up a single point from their opening two matches.

He told reporters: "This is not a decisive game, it's just another match in the group. But of course, if either team wins the next two games they will have a very good chance of reaching the next round. We have lost two matches but that was our own fault. We made several mistakes, although we played at the same level as Real Madrid and Paris."

The players are out on the pitch and we will be underway shortly.

KICKOFF! We're underway at the Swedbank Stadion.

Open start to the game as both teams find space in the final third, but cannot muster an attempt at goal. Looks like Hareide was right as the visitors are playing with a lot of width.

Early corner for Shakhtar is wasted as Fred tries to take his attempt quickly towards the near post, but Wiland gathers with ease at his near post.

Djurdjic makes a surge into the box after collecting the ball down the left from Rosenberg. The forward tries to knock the ball through the legs of Kucher, but the defender manages to win a goal kick for his side by clearing the ball off the legs of Djurdjic.

Marlos almost slips a through ball into the path of Gladkiy, who tries to get behind Arnason. The defender sticks out a leg and diverts the ball off the forward and out for a goal kick. A crucual intervention from the former Rotherham United man.

Shakhtar put the pressure on the home side with back-to-back corners before Ismaily lifts a dangerous arcing cross towards the back post. Gladkiy powers a header at goal, but Bengtsson is there to make the block to divert the ball behind.

Rakitskiy loses the ball in a dangerous area of the pitch and Malmo seize the ball through Rodic. The winger tries to thread a pass through to Rosenberg down the left inside channel, but Srna cuts pass off. Rodic should have done better from that situation.

Bernard collects the ball on the edge of the box, but with support on his left and right, he chooses to go alone to strike the ball at goal. However, his effort sails harmlessly wide of the target.

Donetsk have dominated possession in the early stages of the game, but have not threatened the home side's net. Lucescu will want to see more from his team in the final third.

GOAL! Malmo 1-0 Shakhtar Donetsk (Rosenberg)

Malmo take the lead through their skipper Rosenberg as he latches on to a low cross into the box and steers the ball past Pyatov. The problem came down the right for the visitors as Srna allowed Konate to raid past him and play a low pass into the box, where Rakitskiy just failed to stop the ball reaching the forward and he made no mistake firing into the net.

CHANCE! Further pressure from the home side forces another mistake from Donetsk and Lewicki collects the ball on the edge of the box. No defenders go to close down the midfielder and he decides to go for goal, only to see his effort flash over the bar.

Srna raids down the right for the visitors and sends a deep cross to the back post for Bernard. The winger takes the shot on first time, but his effort gets blocked behind for a corner.

Bernard sends the ball deep into the box for a corner and it finds Srna on the edge of the box, who shoots a low effort towards the net, only for Arnason to make an important block to clear the danger.

Shakhtar up the ante and Marlos has success down the right wing to send a cross into the box for Gladkiy, who peels of his marker on the penalty spot. The ball an age to come down for the forward and when he does get a shot away, Arnason comes over to make the block.

From the resulting corner, Alex Teixeira blasts a volley towards goal but Rosenberg makes the block. Replays show the striker blocked the ball with his arm and a penalty could have been awarded. However, no Shakhtar player appealed for a spot kick.

CHANCE! Shakhtar come close to getting a leveller as Marlos feeds the ball into the path of Gladkiy in the box, who lays a pass at the feet of the on-rushing Fred from midfield. The Brazilian goes to place the ball in the corner, only for his effort to go just past the post.

Donetsk build the ball across the midfield and towards he edge of the box before Alex Teixeira finds space for a strike at goal. However, he cannot control his effort as the ball sails over the crossbar.

YELLOW CARD! Lewicki goes into the book for a poor challenge on Fred.

A chance for the visitors to get back into the game as Tinnerholm brings down Bernard 25 yards from goal, with Srna standing over the ball.

CHANCE! Srna curls his effort over the wall and towards goal, but his effort goes just the wrong side of the post, with Wiland in close vicinity. The keeper would have had the ball covered there anyway had the effort been on target.

CHANCE! Pyatov makes a crucial save to deny Malmo a second goal as he tips Berget's powerful volley over the bar. The home side hit Shakhtar on the break and Djurdjic sent a low ball across the face of goal for the former Celtic man, but his drive was well stopped by the keeper. A vital save.

CHANCE! Rosenberg has the chance to double his and his side's tally for the evening by latching on to Rodic's corner from the right, but he sends his free header well over the bar. A poor attempt from the forward.

YELLOW CARD! Bengtsson is booked for a poor challenge on Gladkiy.

CHANCE! Gladkiy controls the ball in the penalty area but is forced out wide. He tries to send the ball back into the middle and almost picks out Alex Texeira in the middle, but his cross goes just over the head of the Brazilian on the edge of the six-yard box.

A problem for Donetsk right on the brink of half time as Srna goes down in a heap following a challenge from Konate, and the stretcher has come out to take him off the field. This looks serious for the Shakhtar captain.

There will be two minutes of added time, which may be extended due to Srna's injury.

HALF-TIME: Malmo 1-0 Shakhtar Donetsk

Malmo take a 1-0 lead into the break thanks to Markus Rosenberg's strike in the 17th minute. The goal was against the run of play as Shakhtar dominated the contest in the early stages, but the home side broke down the left and Rosenberg displayed his predatory instincts to fire the ball home.

Donetsk will be disappointed to be trailing at the break as they have dominated possession in the first half, but they have lacked a clinical edge in the final third to not provide a test for Johan Wiland. Mircea Lucescu will demand more from his team after the break, especially his forward players.

UPDATE: The other match in Group A this evening between PSG and Real Madrid is goalless at the break at the Parc des Princes. Click here for our half-time report of that match.

RESTART! We're back underway at the Swedbank Stadion.

CHANCE! Berget misses a glorious chance to double his side's lead as Djurdjic slides a through ball for the forward in the box, leaving him with only Pyatov to beat. Berget lifts his effort over the keeper, but the ball travels past the post.

YELLOW CARD! Rakitskiy is yellow-carded for an infringement downfield.

YELLOW CARD! Kucher joins his defensive partner in the book for a challenge on Rosenberg. Although replays suggest that he may have got some of the ball. A chance for the home side to threaten from the free kick.

Rodic sends the ball into the box for Bengtsson to hook the ball towards goal, but his effort goes harmlessly over the bar. Slow start to the half, bar the opening for Berget.

PENALTY TO MALMO!

MISS! Djudrjic misses from the spot as his strike is saved by Pyatov. The spot kick is at a comfortable height and the keeper dives to his right to palm the ball to safety. A poor penalty from the forward. The incident came about as Berget tried to escape the attention of Srna in the box to latch on to a cross, but the Shakhtar skipper pulled him back as he went for the ball, forcing the referee to point to the spot. However, Srna was bailed out by his keeper.

Tinnerholm concedes a free kick in a dangerous area of the pitch when he drags back Bernard. However, the Brazilian cannot make the right-back pay for his error as his set piece is poor and cleared with ease.

Lewicki raids down the left before he gets brought down by Srna, who escapes a booking. Rodic will send the free kick from the left into the box.

OFF THE POST! Rodic curls his free kick to the back post and the ball misses everyone in the area and crashes into the box. Rosenberg tries to react, but he can only hurl himself into the woodwork and the visitors hack the ball clear. Another let off for Donetsk.

CHANCE! Djurdjic misses another good chance to fire the hosts 2-0 ahead as he flicks the ball into the path of Rosenberg, but Pyatov comes off his line to clear the ball. However, his clearance lands only as far as Djurdjic, who tries to lift an effort over the keeper, but can only put his strike straight into the hands of Pyatov. Will Malmo rue these missed chances?

YELLOW CARD! Fred goes into the book for dissent.

CHANCE! Rosenberg beats his man down the flank and gets to the byline. Berget makes a move across Srna in the middle, but the defender gets back at the forward just in time to make a crucial block to deny his goalbound strike.

CHANCE! Rakitskiy has a shot to nothing as he tries a strike from 35 yards. The ball deflects off Bengtsson and arcs towards the net. The ball looks like it will drop over Wiland into the net, but he gets his fingertips to it to tip the ball over the bar. So close for the visitors.

Shakhtar are showing signs of life in this game after the home side missed a plethora of chances in a 20-minute spell. Hareide's men have been dangerous on the break and will know that one more goal will decide the contest. We're set for an exciting end to the match.

DISALLOWED GOAL! Substitute Eduardo gets in behind the Malmo defence and knocks the ball into the path of Alex Teixeira, who fires the ball into the net, only for the former Arsenal man to be flagged for offside.

YELLOW CARD! Stepanenko is caught by Rosbenberg as the duo tussle for the ball in the air, which results in a booking for the forward.

The visitors are throwing men forward in the final stages of the game, which has left them open at the back. Shakhtar have yet to create an opening though, which will be of concern to Lucescu.

Srna commits handball with loose play deep in his own half, which will allow the home side to burn further time off the clock as they look to close out their first win.

Rakip sends a poor delivery to the back post and Pyatov claims the ball with ease to set up a counter-attack for Donetsk.

CHANCE! Stepanenko spurns the visitors' best chance to the game as he makes a late run into the box and latches on to Srna's cross from the right. However, he is surprised by the speed at which the ball meets him six yards from the net and cannot react in time to guide the ball beyond Wiland as it strikes his leg and travels wide.

Rakitskiy brings down Rakip on the edge of the box and Rosenberg has the opportunity from the free kick to settle the match.

Rosenberg fires a low tame effort through the wall, but Pyatov watches it all the way and claims it with ease. He quickly rises to his feet to kick the ball downfield.

There will be three minutes of added time.

Bernard sends a free kick into the box for the visitors and Kovalenko tries to fire at goal, but Arnason makes the block. The striker gets the ball back for a second attempt but more blue shirts surround him and block his effort before the ball get scrambled to safety.

FULL-TIME: Malmo 1-0 Shakhtar Donetsk

Malmo are off and running in Group A as they secure the three points this evening thanks to Markus Rosenberg's strike in the 17th minute. The Swedish side were the better team throughout the contest and could have won by a more comfortable margin as Nikola Djurdjic saw his second-half penalty saved by Andriy Pyatov, while Jo Inge Berget also missed two good opportunities. Shakhtar Donetsk will be disappointed by the level of their display as failed to put the home side under serious pressure, which allowed Age Hareide's side to hold out for the comfortable win. The result leaves the Ukrainian side all but out of the knockout stage, while Malmo now have given themselves hope going into the final three group matches.

Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
