Manchester City investigated by UEFA over boos during Champions League anthem

Manchester City face punishment from UEFA after a section of their supporters booed during the Champions League anthem prior to their win over Sevilla.

UEFA has launched an investigation into Manchester City after a section of their supporters booed during the Champions League anthem prior to Wednesday's match against Sevilla at the Etihad Stadium.

City fans have previously jeered during the pre-match music as a protest against the European governing body's Financial Fair Play rules.

UEFA could punish the former Premier League champions after booing was heard when the anthem played at the Etihad Stadium before City sealed a late 2-1 triumph over their Spanish opponents.

On November 19, the governing body will make a decision with regards to potential punishment over the alleged "disruption of [the] competition anthem".

City are currently second in Group D, one point behind leaders Juventus.
