Roberto Mancini believes that top European clubs are hoping that Manchester City do not qualify for the next stage of the Champions League.

Roberto Mancini has said that top European clubs are hoping that Manchester City do not qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

City go into tonight's home clash with Bayern Munich needing a win and a Villarreal victory over Napoli in order to go through.

"If we go through it will be a big problem for the other teams, but it's an 'if'," Mancini said.

"If Naples don't beat Villarreal and we win it will be an important moment for us. But the Champions League is difficult.

"Every team is worried about Manchester City because Manchester City could become one of the top clubs in the world in the future."

City's last Champions League game ended in a 2-1 away defeat to Napoli.
