Manuel Pellegrini: 'CSKA Moscow got what they deserved for racism'

Manuel Pellegrini says that CSKA Moscow deserved their punishment for racially taunting Manchester City's Yaya Toure.

Manuel Pellegrini has no doubts that CSKA Moscow got what they deserved after being found guilty of racist chanting during their last meeting with Manchester City.

The Russian outfit were hit with a partial stadium ban by UEFA after racial taunting at Yaya Toure marred City's narrow Champions League win in Group D a fortnight ago.

CSKA remain adamant that they did not hear any examples of racism during the match, ahead of their return clash at the Etihad on Tuesday night, which has annoyed Pellegrini.

"The fans of CSKA made an important mistake," said Pellegrini in his press conference. "I don't know why the club denied it at the beginning or what their reaction is now, but UEFA acted and gave them the punishment they deserved.

"I hope we can leave it in the past. The Russian fans should remember they have a World Cup coming up."

The match kicks off at 7.45pm tonight.
