David Silva: 'Manchester City can come of age against Barcelona'

David Silva believes that Manchester City can "come of age" if they defeat Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League.

David Silva has claimed that Manchester City can "come of age" if they beat Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The Spanish giants travel to the Etihad Stadium tonight for the first leg of their knockout tie.

"It will be difficult, but beating Barcelona would be like a coming of age for Man City, very important for our confidence and international recognition," he told the Manchester Evening News.

"They have the history, the experience, and the best player in the world in Lionel Messi - but of course we have an opportunity.

"We believe in ourselves and in our football. The key is to keep up the pressure for 90 minutes, to avoid silly mistakes and take advantage of the chances. Against such a good team, you cannot miss them."

Tonight's match is the first time that City and Barca have faced each other in a competitive fixture.
