How Cardiff City could line up against Manchester City

Sports Mole predicts how Cardiff City will line up for Saturday's home league match against champions Manchester City.

Cardiff City are still looking for that elusive first win since returning to the Premier League as they prepare for the visit of champions Manchester City.

The Bluebirds have drawn two and lost three of their first five outings, most recently succumbing 3-2 at home to Arsenal and 4-1 away at Chelsea.

Unlike opponents Man City, who were in action in the Champions League in midweek, Cardiff have had a full week's rest and will be looking for a second successive home league win in this fixture.

Ahead of Saturday afternoon's clash in South Wales, Sports Mole looks at how Neil Warnock may set out his side.

Possible CAR XI vs. MNC

Out: Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (knee)
Doubtful: Harry Arter (illness), Josh Murphy (hamstring), Aron Gunnarsson (knee)

Cardiff are hopeful that Arter will be declared fit to start this weekend's clash, a week on from leaving the pitch at half time against Chelsea due to a stomach bug.

Should the Irishman be declared fit, Warnock is expected to go with the same four-man midfield - comprised of Junior Hoilett, Joe Ralls and makeshift wideman Victor Camarasa - that featured against Arsenal and Chelsea.

Hoilett's spot is most at risk after a slow start to life back in the Premier League, but Murphy's recent layoff means that he should retain his place for at least another week.

Another alternative for Warnock is to pad out his midfield with the addition of Gunnarsson, although that also seems unlikely as the Iceland international has yet to appear at senior level this term because of a long-standing knee problem.

Elsewhere, Danny Ward and Bobby Reid have impressed in tandem up top and have the full backing of Warnock, leaving Kenneth Zohore and Gary Madine in reserve.
