Manchester City team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Burnley

Sports Mole rounds up Manchester City's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday night's EFL Cup fourth round clash with Burnley at Turf Moor.

Manchester City will be looking to bounce back from their chastening home defeat to Leicester City when they face Burnley in the fourth round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

Pep Guardiola makes the trip to Turf Moor having seen one of his teams ship five goals for the first time in his managerial career as the Foxes dealt an early blow to Man City's title ambitions at the Etihad Stadium.

However, they have an imperious record in this competition in recent years, lifting the trophy in each of the last three seasons and five times in the last seven.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Man City's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the contest.

John Stones

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Fitness
Possible return date: September 30 (vs. Burnley)

John Stones was a notable absentee from the squad to face Leicester, with Man City confirming that the defender was not deemed fit enough to play despite starting against Wolverhampton Wanderers the previous week.

Gabriel Jesus

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: Unknown

Gabriel Jesus will not be available for Man City until after the international break, having already withdrawn from the Brazil squad for next month's games due to a muscle injury.

Sergio Aguero

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Jesus's absence leaves Man City without a recognised senior centre-forward as record goalscorer Sergio Aguero is also still sidelined and may not return until November due to a knee injury.

Ilkay Gundogan

Status: Out
Type of injury: Coronavirus
Possible return date: October 3 (vs. Leeds United)

Ilkay Gundogan will still be in enforced isolation for this match after testing positive for coronavirus last Monday. In theory the midfielder could be available for the weekend trip to Leeds, but it may be that he too does not return until after the international break.

Bernardo Silva

Status: Out
Type of injury: Quadriceps
Possible return date: October 17 (vs. Aston Villa)

Bernardo Silva's absence further limits Man City's attacking options, with the Portuguese forward not expected back this side of the international break due to a quadriceps strain.

Joao Cancelo

Status: Out
Type of injury: Foot
Possible return date: October 17 (vs. Aston Villa)

Joao Cancelo is another whose injury is expected to keep him out until the middle of next month at least, with the full-back currently sidelined by a foot problem.

MANCHESTER CITY'S SUSPENSION LIST

City have no players suspended for this cup tie.
