Manchester City team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Leeds United

Sports Mole rounds up Manchester City's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash against Leeds United at Elland Road.

Manchester City will be looking to make a swift return to winning ways in the Premier League when they take on newly-promoted Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola's side fell to a chastening 5-2 home defeat at the hands of Leicester City in their last top-flight outing, although they showed no ill-effects from that when cruising into the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup at Burnley's expense on Wednesday night.

City did not make quite as many changes as expected for their trip to Turf Moor with Guardiola facing a lengthy injury list, although he was able to welcome Bernardo Silva back ahead of schedule and hand a first appearance of the season to Aymeric Laporte.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of their latest injury and suspension news ahead of the contest.

John Stones

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Fitness
Possible return date: October 3 (vs. Leeds)

There was no sign of John Stones once again in the squad for the Burnley game, meaning that he has now missed the last three matches with fitness issues. Updates so far suggest that his problems are not too serious, though, and he could be in contention for this weekend.

Gabriel Jesus

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: Unknown

Gabriel Jesus's injury leaves Man City without a recognised senior centre-forward for up to a month, with the Brazilian not expected back until after the international break.

Sergio Aguero

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Man City's other centre-forward option Sergio Aguero also remains sidelined with a long-term problem which is likely to keep him out until the end of the month at the earliest. A showdown with Liverpool on November 7 may be the target date for City's record goalscorer.

Ilkay Gundogan

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Coronavirus
Possible return date: October 3 (vs. Leeds United)

In theory Ilkay Gundogan should have now completed his mandatory 10-day isolation period after testing positive for coronavirus, but whether he immediately returns to the squad remains to be seen. Guardiola held Laporte back after his own coronavirus test disrupted his preparations, but threw Riyad Mahrez back into the fray much more quickly.

Joao Cancelo

Status: Out
Type of injury: Foot
Possible return date: October 17 (vs. Aston Villa)

Joao Cancelo continues to recover from a foot injury and will not feature in this match, with a return pencilled in for after the international break.

Oleksandr Zinchenko

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: October 17 (vs. Aston Villa)

No sooner had Oleksandr Zinchenko returned to fitness than injury struck again. The full-back, who has been linked with a move away from the club, will now be sidelined for up to three more weeks with a muscular problem.

MANCHESTER CITY'S SUSPENSION LIST

City have no players suspended for their trip to Elland Road.
