Phil Foden delivers an update on his fitness after hobbling off with an injury in Manchester City's thrilling 3-3 draw with Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Phil Foden has played down fears that he has picked up a serious injury after hobbling off in Manchester City's thrilling 3-3 draw with Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday.

The Englishman has been sensational form for the Citizens this season and was named UEFA Player of the Match following another fine display against Los Blancos at the Santiago Bernabeu.

City were trailing 2-1 following a frantic first 15 minutes during which two deflected strikes from Eduardo Camavinga and Rodrygo cancelled out a superb free kick scored by Bernardo Silva in the second minute.

However, the Champions League holders equalised on the 66-minute mark in exquisite fashion, as Foden drifted inside onto his favoured left foot before arrowing a wonderful 20-yard shot into the top corner.

Josko Gvardiol then scored an equally stunning long-range strike with his weaker right foot – his first for Man City – to put the visitors in front five minutes later, but Real Madrid restored parity when Federico Valverde fired a superb volley into the bottom corner, setting up an intriguing second leg at the Etihad Stadium next Wednesday.

Foden limps off injured in Real Madrid clash

With just five minutes of normal time remaining, Foden drove forward towards the penalty box before Camavinga accidently dragged the studs of his left boot down the calf of City's No.47.

Foden looked in some discomfort and required treatment on the pitch before he eventually hobbled off on the 87-minute mark, but he has since provided a positive update on his condition.

Asked if he is feeling okay during a post-match interview for TNT Sports, Foden said: "I hope so, I've got a bad dead leg. A bit of time to recover and hopefully I can."

Pep Guardiola has also shrugged off fears that Foden has sustained a serious injury, adding: "It was [just] a knock, he was grumpy with me because I made the substitution."

Will Phil Foden play against Luton on Saturday?

Man City are sure to have one eye on next Wednesday's second-leg clash with Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals, but they must first shift their attention to Saturday's Premier League home fixture against Luton Town.

Guardiola is expected to name a strong side as they continue to battle with Liverpool and Arsenal in an enthralling three-way title race; City currently sit third in the table and one point behind both Liverpool in second and Arsenal at the top on goal difference.

Foden's positive update suggests that he could be in contention to play against the Hatters, so Guardiola will weigh up whether it is worth risking the Englishman ahead of the crucial encounter with Real Madrid four days later.

The 23-year-old has been a standout performer for Man City this season, scoring 22 goals and registering 10 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions, including 14 strikes in 30 Premier League games and five goals in seven Champions League matches.

Man City will also assess the fitness of injured duo Kyle Walker (hamstring) and Nathan Ake (calf) as well as Kevin De Bruyne, who had to pull out of the starting lineup against Real Madrid through illness.

Guardiola revealed prior to kickoff that the Belgian "started to vomit" in the dressing room and was "not ready" to start the match.
