Paul Lambert insists that his Aston Villa team will not go up against Manchester City in the League Cup tonight expecting to lose.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert believes that his team are capable of pushing Manchester City out of the League Cup.

The two Premier League sides meet this evening at the Etihad Stadium and the former Norwich City boss has insisted that he will field a team with a desire to snatch victory.

"Nobody will expect anything from us against City," said Lambert. "But I'm not going to change my ideas and we will try to beat one of the best teams in Europe regardless of what side they put out against us.

"I'll tell my team we've got nothing to lose. I'll go as strong as I think I can to win the game. I'll try and pick a team that can go and win, I will not go up there thinking we're going to get beat."

The Midlands outfit have lost four of their last encounters with the English champions.
