Wilfried Bony: 'I used to be a defender'

New Manchester City forward Wilfried Bony reveals that he started his football career as a defender.

Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony has revealed that he used to be a defender, but switched to a forward after watching former Brazil striker Ronaldo.

The Ivorian, who joined City from Swansea City last month, took part in his first training session with his new club earlier this week.

The 26-year-old, who has netted 34 goals in 70 games since arriving in the Premier League, has claimed that he started down the other end of the field.

"Ronaldo from Brazil. Because I was a defender, then I loved him because he had everything. He was a complex player and I just think I wanted to be a striker and I am now, he gave me motivation to be a striker," Bony revealed in a Google chat with Man City supporters.

Bony signed a four-and-a-half-year deal at the Etihad in January.
