Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart insists that a player in his position could effectively captain their country.

Joe Hart has insisted that a goalkeeper could captain their country effectively.

The Manchester City shot stopper has been widely tipped to be handed the role by interim coach Stuart Pearce for tomorrow's friendly against Holland at Wembley.

Hart believes that he is unlikely to be given the armband, but should he acquire the captaincy, he would look to copy Spain and Real Madrid's Iker Casillas success.

"To captain your country would be amazing and a great honour but it is a long way off happening for myself," Hart told a press conference.

"In regards to a goalkeeper captaining their country or their team I can only look no further than Iker Casillas and what he has done.

"I think it is definitely possible."

Manager Pearce confirmed that he will announce his captaincy selection tomorrow.
