Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has revealed that he discussed the possibility of signing Napoli striker Edinson Cavani when he was manager at the Etihad Stadium.
The Italian, who was sacked by the club a year to the day that he guided them to Premier League glory, has since been replaced by former Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini.
While Cavani has been linked with a switch to the Premier League, the forward's father Luis recently claimed that he has his heart set on signing for Real Madrid.
"When I was at City I often spoke about Cavani with the management because he was somebody who could have been targeted," the Manchester Evening News quotes Mancini as saying. "However, I don't know now whether he is of interest in the club's new technical project."
Chelsea has also been touted as a possible destination for Cavani.
