Gary Neville: Manuel Pellegrini's "real work starts now"

Gary Neville claims that the "real work starts now" for Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Gary Neville has claimed that the "real work starts now" for Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini.

The Chilean coach led City to a Premier League and League Cup double in his first season at the Etihad, but the former Manchester United defender thinks that the Citizens boss needs to continue his success.

He told Sky Sports News: "The real work starts now. They've got to improve in Europe, they have a fantastic academy and the foundations in place, they've got to start having youngsters coming through.

"That's what Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain would want, they're Barcelona born and bred, they'll want young City players coming through.

"Pellegrini's got to get through some Financial Fair Play issues, and he's got a real task on his hands over the next couple of years. The real work starts now, can he get the mentality in the players' minds to win the title again?"

City eventually beat Liverpool to the title by two points following their 2-0 win against West Ham United on Sunday.
