Bacary Sagna: 'I can replace Vincent Kompany'

Manchester City right-back Bacary Sagna says that he will happily move into central defence to replace the injured Vincent Kompany if necessary.

Bacary Sagna has offered his services to Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini as a makeshift centre-half in the absence of Vincent Kompany.

The Belgian is expected to be sidelined until the New Year with a hamstring injury after suffering a recurrence of the problem in Saturday's 1-0 win at Leicester City.

However, the French right-back, who occasionally filled in at centre-back for former club Arsenal, says that he has no problem playing in the middle of defence if called upon.

"I have played a few times at centre-back for Arsenal," he told Sky Sports News. "If I have to play I will play, and always try to give 100 per cent and my best for the team.

"But hopefully [Kompany] will be ready for [Saturday's home league clash with] Crystal Palace."

The 31-year-old has started just four Premier League games for the Sky Blues since completing his Bosman move to Eastlands in the summer.
